Home Organization Checklist
One Weekend. One Room. A Complete Home Organization Checklist.
Stop feeling overwhelmed. Follow this simple room-by-room checklist to declutter your bedroom, living room, kitchen, hall, and outdoor spaces — one weekend at a time.
Looking at your whole house at once is paralyzing. Do not do that.
Pick one room. Spend one weekend on it. Then move to the next.
Here is your checklist.
Bedroom (Saturday Morning)
- Clear your nightstand. Keep only lamp, charger, book, water.
- Pull out clothes you have not worn in 12 months. Donate them.
- Use under-bed bins for off-season clothes and extra sheets.
- Add a lidded hamper for laundry.
Living Room (Saturday Afternoon)
- Corral remotes and coasters in one basket on the coffee table.
- Store throw blankets in a floor basket or on a blanket ladder.
- Hide wires with adhesive cable clips.
- Keep only what fits on your shelves.
Kitchen (Sunday Morning)
- Empty the junk drawer. Keep only what you used last month.
- Add drawer dividers for utensils.
- Clear counters. If an appliance has not been used in 3 months, hide it or donate it.
- Label pantry zones: breakfast, canned goods, baking, snacks.
Hall (Sunday Afternoon)
- Create a landing strip: small table or shelf for keys and mail.
- Add a shoe rack or low bench. If shoes do not fit, you have too many.
- Install wall hooks for coats and bags — faster than hangers.
- Use a small basket for pet leashes and gear.
Outdoor (Sunday Late Afternoon)
- Get a deck box for cushions, tools, or toys.
- Wall-mount tools on a pegboard or rail.
- Store grilling supplies near the grill.
- Bring cushions inside before heavy rain or winter.
The Daily Reset (5 Minutes)
- Morning: Make the bed.
- Evening: Clear counters. Put shoes away. Fluff pillows.
